This summer, the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County will once again present the award-winning Community Foundation Performing Arts Series in the Chris Wilson Pavilion at South Bend’s Potawatomi Park. This five-event free series begins on July 30 and runs on consecutive Saturdays through August 27, featuring some of our community’s best arts talent. All events begin at 7 p.m.
Saturday, July 30: Notre Dame Shakespeare’s Touring Company will perform the comedy All’s Well That Ends Well.
Saturday, August 6: Southold Dance Theater showcases its best students along with two professional guest artists, featuring classical ballet as well as modern dance.
Saturday, August 13: Lifting Our Voices: A Celebration of African American Music and Dance includes a community choir performing spiritual and gospel selections, led by Dr. Marvin Curtis and Turrell O’Neal; a quintet from the South Bend Symphony Orchestra performing works by African American composers, and the UZIMA dance troupe.
Saturday, August 20: The South Bend Symphony Orchestra performs a full concert featuring music of love and passion, with a special preview of its upcoming performance of West Side Story with South Bend Civic Theatre this October. WVPE-FM 88.1 will offer a simulcast of the performance, including a special Q&A with Music Director Alastair Willis and SBCT Executive Director Aaron Nichols.
Saturday, August 27: Art 4 presents an evening of summer-inspired musical theater favorites, plus a special one-night only preview of its upcoming production of Little Shop of Horrors, opening the last weekend in September.
It is recommended to bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the concerts each week as seating in the park is limited. In case of rain, updates will be posted on the Community Foundation’s Facebook page here. (Only the South Bend Symphony performance on Aug. 20 has a scheduled rain location: Adams High School Auditorium.) All events will be professionally amplified and lit by EventSys.
The Community Foundation Performing Arts Series is sponsored by the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County’s ArtsEverywhere Fund, the Marjorie H. Wilson Charitable Trust Fund, and the Indiana Arts Commission. South Bend Venues, Parks and Arts is a key partner. WVPE-88.1 FM is our broadcast partner for the Aug. 20 event with the South Bend Symphony.
