Sunday Nature Hikes

Fall is just around the corner and Rum Village comes to life! Stop by the Rum Village Nature Center for our fall hikes happening every Sunday. Perfect for all ages, our guided tours are the perfect opportunity to see the incredible fall foliage, and animals that call the park home. Registration is not required!

September 18: The Search for Seven
Let’s play detective! Keep your eyes and ears peeled for seven distinct natural features in the woods. Don’t worry, we’ll teach you about them before we venture out! This is a great activity for the entire family, so bring the kiddos!

September 25: Elbel Hike
Elbel Park and Golf Course is a unique and beautiful property. Because it’s a golf course, you are only able to hike the wooded uplands with a naturalist. Join us being the clubhouse just before 3:00pm for a stunning hike.

October 2: Signs of Fall
Investigate the signs of our changing season. The leaves, falling acorns and salamanders will all be a sight to see!

October 9: Audubon Program

October 16: Astounding Arachnids
An often misunderstood and overlooked animal, arachnids are incredibly interesting! We’ll learn more about them, their close relatives and more including spiders and scorpions.

October 23: Fall’s Brilliant Colors Pt. 1
Rum Village is the best place in the entire city to see the fall foliage each year. Join us as we hike the woods and learn about the significance of the various leaf colors.

October 30: Fall’s Brilliant Colors Pt. 2
Couldn’t make last week’s hike or loved what we saw? We’re doing it again this week!

November 6: Scenic Vistas Hike
We’ll hike the trails and take in the special views as the leaves have fallen.

November 13: Audubon (Indiana Dunes Wildflowers)
Scott Nanestnik and Nathanael Pilla will be presenting their book, “Wildflowers of the Indiana Dunes National Park” and will have copies of books to purchase and sign.
