Wintertime Adventures at Rum Village

Come take a walk at Rum Village where quiet yet breathtaking adventures await you at every turn.

Too often, we only see the difficulties of the colder seasons – cars that won’t start, slippery sidewalks – but if you take the time to tune into the nature that surrounds you, this season can truly be a delight. Come take a walk at Rum Village where quiet yet breathtaking adventures await you at every turn.

Imagine as you step into the forest, looking all around and walking softly across a winter wonderland. You needn’t be quiet, but make your presence welcoming to the animals and birds that live there if you want a chance to catch a glimpse of them.

Here are some things you might discover at Rum Village in the winter:

Listen for birds high in the trees; perhaps faint sounds of chickadees, tufted titmice, or nuthatches, or louder calls of blue jays or crows. Perhaps the forest is quiet though instead, and if so, simply enjoy the peace. Notice the sound of the snow that crunches under your feet as you walk.

Look for animal tracks in the snow. Can you tell what was there or which direction they were traveling? Was it a squirrel, rabbit, fox, or someone walking their dog? As you walk, do you see “snow snakes” on the trees, where the branches are laced with snow? If the snow is falling, notice their different shapes as they land on your jacket or gloves.

Before you finish your walk and step out of the forest, take a moment to just stop and breathe. This is a chance to recharge and renew in nature.
