Martin Luther King, Jr. Honor Walk

The City of South Bend, in partnership with the Civil Rights Heritage Center and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Foundation will host the 2nd annual MLK Jr. Honor Walk on Saturday, April 4.

The walk is to recognize and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated on this day 58 years ago. After opening remarks at 10 a.m. at the Civil Rights Heritage Center (1040 W Washington St.) the walk will kick off and end at the MLK Jr. Dream Center (1522 Linden Ave.). The walk will be approximately 0.7 miles long.

Following the walk, a new experience, a Taste of Linden Market will take place at 11:00 a.m. Taste of Linden Market is a pre-launch of the City’s Linden Avenue Farmer’s Market, featuring 4-5 vendors showcasing their goods.

Self-guided tours, music, light refreshments, and other activities will take place at the MLK Jr. Dream Center until 2 p.m.

Route: Starting at the Civil Rights Heritage Center, go west to Birdsell Street, go north on Birdsell Street and then take a left on Linden Avenue to the MLK, Jr. Dream Center.

Schedule of Events: 

  • Opening remarks at Civil Rights Heritage Center at 10 am
  • MLK. Jr. Honor Walk Starts at 10:30 am
  • Closing remarks at the MLK Dream Center at 11 am
  • Taste of Linden Market and Self-Guided tours after the closing remarks!
